A Spirometry test is a common and effective way to measure how much air you can breathe out from your lungs and how quickly it is exhaled. You will be asked to breathe deeply and then exhale into a tube which is attached to a machine called a spirometer The spirometer takes measurements of the strength and speed of your exhalation.

Spirometry is the most reliable way to test your lungs for asthma and COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease).

Pulse oximetry is another painless method of testing to measure the amount of oxygen present in your blood. This test uses a device called a pulse oximeter that clips onto your fingertip or earlobe.

 

As part of the pulmonary function testing, you may be asked to use the device while engaging in different levels of physical activity.

Northern Lung Function has its own team of Respirologists that do consultations at  our West End, Southside and Downtown locations.

Internally, regular cross interpretations are made among three Respirologists. They communicate with referring GPs about patient reports.
